Real Wisdom. Hard Times.
This Spring, Pastor Geoff and others will be preaching through the Book of James- “Real Wisdom for Really Hard Times” In a way, the book of James is a lot like this. James is writing to a group of people who seem to grasp the idea that they have been forgiven through Jesus’ death and resurrection, but these people have not understood the other part: that this salvation means that their lives need to be changed.
So throughout, James doesn’t speak of grace much—not because he doesn’t believe in it, but because it is an assumption shared by all who are reading it. They think they understand grace, but they don’t really, because they don’t realize part of God’s grace involves changing their way of living.
